Pathology
Diagnostics
Pathology is a branch of medical science that is focused on the study and diagnosis of disease. Clinical pathology involves the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues (biopsy samples), bodily fluids, and in some cases the whole body (autopsy).
Surgical Pathology
During surgeries such as Sleeve gastrectomy, hysterectomy, tumor resection and others, any removed specimen is directly sent to the pathology lab to make sure of its constituents, make a definitive diagnosis and rule out other conditions.
Cytopathology
Sometimes pathology studies and diagnoses diseases on the cellular level. These include biopsies taken during Gastroscopy, colonoscopy or Fine needle aspiration (FNA) among others; diagnosing conditions such as inflammation, infections, cancers and precancerous tissues.
Molecular Pathology
A relatively recent discipline that focuses on molecular and genetic studies. Studying patient-specific biomarkers, gene variants, and other molecules to yield a more accurate diagnosis, treatment plan or prognostic study.
